The Devil and His Heart
![]() Shall I tell you how the Devil found His heart
The Devil sat nightly in His own private Hell
And the Devil reigned harshly over all He saw
And the demons there cried for His attention
But the Devil being the Devil wanted more
![]() Even for all the demons He had under His hand
The Devil felt only the emptiness of being alone
And one night a girl came into His Hell
And the Devil saw her and watched
And the Devil coveted her
And the Devil said "She must be Mine."
![]() And the Devil being the Devil set out to have her
And as Devils do He took the girl
But the Devil doesnt always take by force
The Devil sometimes takes by seduction
And the Devil sometimes takes by trickery
![]() So then the Devil whispered to the girl
And the Devil made her sweet promises
And the girl went with the Devil
For she was only a girl and He was the Devil
![]() The Devil took the girl as the Devil does
And she traded Him her soul
And He made her His with the promises
And she gave Him her heart
For she was only a girl and He was the Devil
![]() The Devil gave her all He promised
But the Devil took much more from her
And the Devil's heart was changed somehow
And the Devil loved her more than He could imagine
![]() The Devil spent all His time with the girl
And for a while Hell wasn't quite Hell anymore
But the Devil's old demons whined aloud
And all the other demons cried
Out at their lack of attention
![]() The jealous demonds whispered laughed
And tormented the girl by whispering to her
"You are one of us now."
The girl cried because she couldn't be one of the many
So the girl cried out to Him "Devil release me!"
![]() And the Devil refused and the Devil raged
Then all the walls of Hell shook with His rage
And the girl cried out to Him again "Devil release me!"
And the Devil raged
![]() And being the Devil He attacked what He loved
And the Devil marked her for all time as His
And the girl cried out to Him "Devil release me!"
So the Devil released her and the Devil raged
And the Devil cried and Hell was Hell once more
![]() So the Devil sat alone in Hell again as Devils usually do
And from afar He heard the girl's whisper "Devil I am here."
And Hell wasn't quite as unbearable as before
But the Devil was still alone and Hell was still Hell
And the Devil was still the Devil
![]() Once again the girl whispered to Him "Devil if You love me come get me."
So the Devil left His throne in Hell and went to get the girl
And the Devil again found His heart in her
And the Devil saw that His Hell was only Hell without her
![]() And for a while Hell wasn't Hell anymore
But the Devil is a serpent and, as serpents do
The Devil betrayed her with a demon
And the Devil lied as the Devil will do
And the girl found out and cried "Devil release me!"
And the Devil raged and the Devil cried
And the Devil released her and Hell was Hell once more
![]() And, sometime later He heard the girl's whisper from afar
"Devil I am here." And the Devil left His throne in Hell
And went to her and the Devil fought for her
And the Devil won back her love
And the Devil never betrayed her again
![]() And Hell wasn't Hell anymore
And the girl loved the Devil so much
That one day she cried "Devil I am Yours!"
And the girl whispered to Him "Devil You are my Master."
The girl was alone and afraid
And she found she was ashamed to be that
And the girl cried and whispered "Devil release me."
And though the Devil cried He released her to save her
![]() Hell wasn't Hell anymore and even though He had released her
The Devil never betrayed her again
But there are always more demons and the Demon of Need whispered
And the Demon of Jealousy spoke to the girl
And the girl heard the demons and the girl ran from them
Then the Devil was alone again
And the Devil found Hell to be Hell once more
![]() Now the Devil raged and the Devil cried
For the Devil didn't know how to bring her home
The Devil raged alone and the demons around Him cried out in fear
And in His rage the Devil hunted the girl relentlessly
And the girl whispered from afar "Devil I am here."
![]() But the Devil couldn't touch her heart
And the Devil couldn't bring her home
So the Devil was alone as Devils usually are
And the Devil cried
And Hell was Hell once more
